The Quoit Factory was founded in 2004 by owner Nicholas Kennedy who grew up playing quoits with family and friends in Easton, Pennsylvania. He witnessed first hand the competitive nature of the game and was impressed that it was at every party in the area. Kennedy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after graduating from Easton High School in 1998. He served in Okinawa, Japan and San Diego, California specializing in Operations and Training of Marines. He also served brief tours in South Korea and Thailand assisting in training of their respective Marine Corps personnel.

The knowledge and experiences Kennedy gained while serving his country turned valuable in his quest to start his own company after his service commitment. While living in Ocean Beach San Diego, Kennedy realized nobody he knew in California had any idea what quoits were and the game was relatively unknown outside Pennsylvania and New Jersey. At the beach in Southern California the only games that were being played at the time were Frisbee, Horseshoes and Beer Pong. Kennedy realized that his hometown game of Quoits had market potential but he had to figure out a way to manufacturer and market the game.

After his commitment to the Marines ended in the fall of 2003, Kennedy drove from California to Pennsylvania in pursuit of his business idea. The slate industry was located in his hometown area so he began business relationships with those family run slate quarries and started experimenting on manufacturing methods. He also attended local community college for a year primarily to use the G.I Bill money to help buy supplies for the start up business.

In the spring of 2004 the Quoit Factory began selling Slate Quoit boards and Rubber Quoits to local businesses and the public. In 2005 color Quoits were introduced for the first time and Kennedy was rewarded with patent no. D533600. During that time he was also working on a lightweight Quoit board concept so shipping of the Quoit boards would be greatly reduced.

Kennedy first introduced the lightweight composite Quoit board set at the Sporting Good Manufacturers Association trade show in Orlando, FL in 2006 and the composite Quoit boards made the top 10 new products of the year category. Kennedy was also rewarded patent no. 724976 for the new Quoit board design.

Kennedy launched a website in 2008 for the Quoit Factory. He also formed direct relationships with other outdoor game manufacturers and began selling their respective yard games on the website in order to get Quoit Factory established in other outdoor yard game categories which in turn helped cross promote Quoits along similar product lines. Since then many more people around the country have been exposed to the game and media outlets have featured it in their news stories. Today the Quoit Factory has become a unique specialty store having the highest quality and largest selection of American made Quoits and Croquet product lines on the Internet.
